Have you ever wondered how past experiences shape your emotions and decisions? The relationship with your inner child holds the key to understanding and releasing these influences. Through the Hawaiian practice of Ho’oponopono, you can heal this connection, bringing peace, clarity, and renewal to your life.
In Inner Child Ho’oponopono Meditation, Ipek Williamson leads you on a transformative journey to mend the bond between your conscious mind (the mother) and subconscious (the child). This 24-minute practice uses compassion, forgiveness, and love to free you from painful memories and open the door to a lighter, more harmonious life.
Inspiration behind Ho’oponopono meditation
Ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian healing practice, centers on forgiveness and reconciliation. Ipek’s meditation focuses on nurturing your inner child, acknowledging the subconscious memories that influence your present, and gently releasing them. Ipek explains:
“This is the most important relationship in creation—the connection between the conscious and subconscious minds, when these two aspects work in harmony, you unlock your true potential for healing and growth.”
This profound understanding led her to create a practice that combines visualization, introspection, and the Ho’oponopono mantra, allowing individuals to embark on a journey of deep emotional healing.

Step 1: Create a safe space
Begin by finding a comfortable position. Sit cross-legged or lie down with your arms resting naturally. Adjust your posture to feel fully supported.
Close your eyes and take three deep breaths:
- Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling the air fill your lungs.
- Exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing tension and relaxing your body.
As you settle in, allow your inner world to unfold. Observe your thoughts and emotions with curiosity, letting them flow freely.
Step 2: Visualize your inner child
Picture yourself as a child during a vulnerable moment. Notice the details:
- What are you wearing?
- How does your hair look?
- What emotions are present in your younger self?
See this child clearly and vividly. Gently acknowledge their presence, saying, “For the first time, I’m aware of you as a part of me. I see you. I love you.”
Step 3: Apologize and ask for forgiveness
Begin the Ho’oponopono mantra, addressing your inner child:
- “I’m sorry.”
- “Please forgive me.”
- “Thank you.”
- “I love you.”
Speak with sincerity, apologizing for any pain or neglect. Recognize that the burdens your inner child carries are memories from many lifetimes, passed down through ancestors and experiences.
Step 4: Build trust through touch
Imagine gently stroking the child’s head and holding their hands. As you do, repeat affirmations like:
- “Thank you for being a part of me.”
- “Please forgive me for any harm or sorrow I’ve caused.”
This physical connection symbolizes rebuilding trust and fostering intimacy.
Step 5: Release stored memories
Ask your child to help release the painful memories stored within. Address specific challenges:
- “Please help me let go of the memories causing financial struggles.”
- “Let’s release the pain tied to past relationships.”
Together, offer these memories to divinity, asking for cleansing and freedom.
Step 6: Seal the bond with love
Cradle your inner child in your arms, holding them close. Look into their eyes and say, “I love you. Thank you for being willing to let go.”
Reaffirm this bond as a partnership: “Together, we can walk hand in hand into the light, free from the burdens of the past.”
Step 7: Complete the practice with breathwork
Finish with a breathing exercise your inner child will appreciate. Rest your hands on your lap, with your thumb and forefinger touching. Perform the following:
- Breathe in for a count of seven.
- Hold your breath for a count of seven.
- Exhale for a count of seven.
- Hold your breath for a count of seven again.
Repeat this cycle seven times, feeling a sense of cleansing and calm with each breath.

- Create a calming environment: Choose a quiet, safe space where you can fully focus on the practice without distractions.
Ipek reminds us:
“Building a relationship with your inner child takes time, each moment you spend connecting brings you closer to harmony and peace.”
